The Batu Asih Volleyball Club in Sekarwangi Village, Sukabumi Regency, has received assistance from a team of lecturers from Universitas Bhayangkara Jakarta Raya (Ubhara Jaya) to improve athlete capabilities while strengthening the club’s economic independence. The Community Service Programme (PKM) utilises a sport science approach through the PENBAL medium as well as sports entrepreneurship training.

The programme, titled ‘Achievement Assistance Using PENBAL Media and Economic Strengthening for the Batu Asih Volleyball Club’, is funded through the BIMA 2026 grant scheme of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.

The PKM team is led by Juli Candra together with M. Fadhli Nursal and Achmad Fauzan. The implementation of the assistance also involves students from the Sports Coaching Education Study Programme at Ubhara Jaya who provide direct training to athletes and club administrators.

The assistance targets problems often faced by sports clubs in the regions, ranging from limited training facilities to suboptimal club management. Therefore, the programme not only focuses on improving athletes’ technical abilities but also opens up business development opportunities to support the club’s operations.

One of the methods used is the PENBAL medium (volleyball launcher/support). The tool is used to help athletes perform technical training repeatedly with a more consistent ball rhythm.

PKM Team Leader Juli Candra explained that the use of PENBAL helps athletes increase the intensity of technical training without always depending on a manual setter.

‘The PENBAL tool allows athletes to train smash technique with a consistent ball rhythm. This measured repetition is crucial so that muscle memory is formed perfectly, so that the attack quality of Batu Asih Club athletes improves significantly even when training independently,’ said Juli in a press release on Tuesday (18/8/2026).

Training is also structured so that the development of athletes’ abilities can be measured. The assistance includes training in smash technique, accuracy, explosive power, and hitting consistency.

In addition to the sports aspect, the Ubhara Jaya team provided sports entrepreneurship training to administrators and athletes. The material includes mapping business opportunities that the club can develop, such as merchandise and organising local tournaments.

This approach is expected to help the club have alternative funding sources to support training needs and operational activities. Thus, the development of athlete achievement does not only depend on external support.

The Head of Sekarwangi Village and the administrators of the Batu Asih Volleyball Club welcomed the assistance programme. The collaboration between academics and the community is expected to strengthen athlete development while encouraging more independent club management.

The programme is an effort to connect the application of sport science with the real needs of sports clubs at the village level, so that athlete development and club economic development can go hand in hand.
