Uber has just acquired the German food delivery service Delivery Hero. The purchase will expand the platform’s reach and strengthen competition globally.

The deal between the two companies is valued at US$14.8 billion (Rp 265 trillion). Delivery Hero said the merger will face complex regulations because it creates a platform covering 99 countries with a combined pro-forma GMV of US$236 billion (Rp 4,231 trillion) in 2025.

“Together, we will nearly double the number of markets where we offer mobility and delivery services,” said Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, quoted by Reuters on Friday (17/7/2026).

The move was also described by Delivery Hero’s supervisory board chairman as the right step, as it can secure future competitiveness.

“Joining forces with a strong partner is the right move for Delivery Hero to secure its future competitiveness,” he explained.

The acquisition is expected to be completed in the second half of 2027.

Under the agreement, Uber Eats will reach many more users, spanning Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America.

However, the two companies with overlapping operations will face antitrust scrutiny. They have already prepared a resolution, with Delivery Hero set to sell its operations in 14 markets to the US investment firm SSW Partners for €1.4 billion (Rp 28.6 trillion).

Major shareholder Prosus has also agreed to sell nearly 17% of its stake.
