Professor Mohammad Saifur Rohman, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Brawijaya University (FK UB), has introduced a product blending green tea and green coffee for heart health, named Deteko. Professor Saifur explained that the idea for Deteko originated 12 years ago, stemming from a desire to provide a healthy beverage choice for the public amidst the popularity of tea and coffee-based drinks. “The initial concept of Deteko was to develop a functional beverage that people enjoy, which can serve as an additional remedy alongside medicines available on the market, particularly for patients with metabolic syndrome,” he said in a statement received in Malang, East Java, on Monday. Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions occurring together, including central obesity (abdominal fat), high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and high triglycerides. He noted that metabolic syndrome requires greater attention as the number of sufferers is increasing. If left unchecked, more people could suffer from heart disease. “As a cardiologist, I want people to become healthier by consuming Deteko twice a day, which has been clinically tested to lower blood pressure, reduce obesity and cholesterol, and decrease the risk of future heart attacks,” he stated. He added that the product has been supported by at least three international journal publications annually, totalling 36 scientific publications over the 12-year development period, proving its scientific basis. The product has currently obtained a Home Industry Food permit, and a distribution licence from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency is in process. To expand its reach, Professor Saifur said he requires collaboration with tea or coffee producers and broader marketing partners.
