UAL seeks RI landing
CHICAGO (Reuter): UAL Corp's United Airlines said it had
applied for landing rights in Indonesia and hoped to begin
service from the United States on Oct. 1, but the plan depended
on approval from Japan.
United said the planned flights would leave from San Francisco
three times a week, stopping in Osaka, Japan, before landing in
Jakarta.
United said it expects approval from Indonesia but said Japan
has refused to honor an agreement allowing United to operate
flights to Asia via Japan.
United said it hopes negotiations with Japan this week will
clear the way.
"We are not, however, enthusiastic about our prospects," said
Cyril Murphy, United's vice president of international affairs.
