UAE's DAMAC Group to Invest Billions in Indonesian Data Centres with 1.3 GW Capacity
Jakarta - United Arab Emirates-based data centre provider DAMAC Group has confirmed its investment in Indonesia to build large-scale data centres. Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso stated that the total capacity of the data centres DAMAC will build in Indonesia will be around 1.2 to 1.3 gigawatts. “DAMAC is indeed a major investor. But a commitment to invest in 1.2-1.3 gigawatts of data centres is extraordinary, because our total national capacity is only 600 megawatts,” Susiwijono said at his office in Jakarta on Friday. With the total data centre investment capacity reaching 1.3 gigawatts, Susiwijono said the investment value could reach billions of US dollars, as each megawatt of data centre capacity requires millions of US dollars. “So, every 1 megawatt of a data centre requires several million US dollars. If it’s 1.2 gigawatts or 1.3 gigawatts, that means 1,300 megawatts multiplied by several million US dollars. It will certainly be in the billions of US dollars,” Susiwijono explained. Susiwijono could not yet confirm when DAMAC will complete the realisation of its investment in Indonesia. However, he noted that discussions have already taken place between DAMAC and the Indonesian Data Centre Industry Consortium, known as IDPRO. “They have conveyed that investment realisation will begin this year. And our data centre needs are enormous. For AI, it will be very large,” he stressed. Susiwijono said DAMAC’s data centre construction will be located at several points in Jakarta, differing from the data centres built by many providers which are largely concentrated in the Nongsa Digital Park Special Economic Zone. “But there are more than 10 in Nongsa. DAMAC, however, is not in Nongsa, but at several points, some in Jakarta, and the value is very large,” Susiwijono stated. As previously known, since August 2025 DAMAC has begun the groundbreaking process for its data centre in Jakarta with an investment value of US$150 million. The final stage of infrastructure completion, or topping off, for the data centre named JKT01 - Jakarta Central is expected this year. Nevertheless, Susiwijono emphasised that the government needs to adjust the supporting infrastructure for DAMAC’s data centres, from water to the very substantial electricity supply. “The consequence of these data centres is that they need large amounts of electricity, large amounts of water, and so on. This is our challenge, with the electricity supply as it is, we must plan for future data centre investments, which are very large. And going forward, data centres will be needed by everyone,” Susiwijono explained.
