Dubai (ANTARA) - The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will withdraw from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the broader OPEC+ alliance, effective from 1 May 2026.

This was reported by the UAE’s official news agency, Emirates News Agency (WAM), on Tuesday (28/4).

WAM stated that the decision reflects the UAE’s long-term strategic and economic vision, as well as its continuously evolving energy profile.

This includes accelerated investments in domestic energy production and strengthening its commitment to play a responsible, reliable, and visionary role in the global energy market.

The decision was taken following a comprehensive review of the UAE’s production policies, as well as its current and future capacities, and is based on the UAE’s national interests and its commitment to contribute effectively to meeting the urgent needs of the market.
