RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The 50-year diplomatic relationship between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) reached a milestone as President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ) conveyed his country’s commitment to increase investment in Indonesia.
The pledge was made during a bilateral meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Qasr Al Bahr Palace on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya confirmed that President MBZ directly expressed the commitment, positioning Indonesia as a primary strategic partner in Southeast Asia. “The meeting discussed cooperation in increasing investment. Bilaterals were upgraded. The UAE wants to increase its investment in Indonesia,” Teddy said on Friday, February 27, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Both leaders discussed concrete steps to strengthen cooperation in key sectors, including energy, infrastructure, and future economic development. Teddy noted that the meeting underscored a long-term framework for mutual benefit.
President Prabowo welcomed the commitment and emphasized Indonesia’s readiness to maintain a stable and sustainable investment climate. The government is opening broader collaboration opportunities for UAE investors in national priority sectors, ranging from green energy to large-scale infrastructure projects.
The meeting carried symbolic significance as 2026 marks the golden jubilee of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the UAE. Officials from both sides said the anniversary serves as a springboard for a more comprehensive strategic partnership.
President Prabowo was accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Indonesian Ambassador to the UAE Judha Nugraha.
President MBZ was joined by senior advisors, including Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court Hamdan bin Mohamed Al Nahyan, Strategic Affairs Advisor Ahmed Al Mazrouei, Energy and Infrastructure Minister Suhail Al Mazrouei, and UAE Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulla Salem Obaid Salem Al Dhaheri. ***
