UAE Closes Embassy and Withdraws Ambassador from Tehran Following Iranian Missile Attack
The Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the closure of its embassy in Tehran, the capital of Iran, and the withdrawal of its ambassador from the country. This action follows Iranian missile attacks targeting Emirati territory.
In a statement, the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared that it has closed its embassy and withdrawn its ambassador and all diplomatic staff from Iran.
The decision was taken in response to what was described as an “overt Iranian missile attack” targeting the UAE. The UAE government characterised the Iranian strikes as “aggressive action against civilian sites, including residential areas, airports, ports, and service facilities.”
The attack “endangers innocent civilians in a dangerous and irresponsible escalation that constitutes a flagrant violation of national sovereignty and a clear breach of international law and the UN Charter,” the UAE ministry stated.
The ministry added that the step was taken given “Iran’s continued aggressive and provocative approach, which undermines opportunities for de-escalation and pushes the region towards a highly dangerous path, threatening regional and international security and stability, energy security, and global economic stability.”
Previously, several UAE areas had been targeted by retaliatory attacks from Iran. One of the points struck by Iranian missiles was Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi.
“Abu Dhabi Airport confirms an incident at Zayed International Airport that resulted in one death of an Asian national and seven injuries,” said the authority managing the airport in a statement posted on social media platform X, according to AFP on Sunday (1 March 2026).
According to Turkish media Anadolu Agency, Dubai International Airport was also hit by Iranian missile strikes on Sunday morning Dubai time. Four airport staff members were reported injured.
In a post on X, Dubai Airports confirmed that a lounge at Dubai International Airport (DXB) sustained minor damage in the incident. The event was said to have been handled swiftly. The four injured staff members received immediate medical treatment.
