Dubai — The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) stated on Wednesday morning local time that its air defence systems successfully intercepted threats from missiles and drones originating from Iran.

Dubai residents received mobile phone alerts regarding a potential missile attack and were advised to seek shelter. The alert was subsequently withdrawn.

The incident occurred amid escalating regional tensions following combined strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran, which commenced on 28 February.

Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and US assets throughout the Middle East.

On Tuesday (10 March), the UAE’s Ministry of Defence stated that its air defence remained “vigilant, strengthened by cooperation with our partners,” whilst citing an interception rate of 94 per cent against 1,475 drone attacks and an interception rate of 92 per cent against 270 missile attacks over the previous eleven days.
