UAE Ambassador Hopes US-Iran Ceasefire Will Promote Dialogue
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The United Arab Emirates, together with friendly countries in the region, including GCC member states and Jordan, hopes that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran will become a positive momentum to encourage dialogue. “We continue to call for de-escalation, ceasefire, and resolution through diplomatic channels. We do not want to see escalation. Therefore, we hope this will be the right momentum to promote dialogue,” said the United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Indonesia, Abdulla Salem Aldhaheri, at a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday evening (8/4). He stated that Gulf countries and Jordan hope the 14-day ceasefire ahead can be well utilised by both parties. “We hope that in the next two weeks, positive results will be achieved that can strengthen stability while opening the way to prosperity for our countries,” he said. He also underlined the importance of maintaining the smooth flow of supply chains and global trade to avoid triggering price surges or economic disruptions. “We also do not want to see any disruptions to trade routes, supply chains, or price increases, because we do not want to see further disruptions,” he said. He assessed that disruptions would only lead to setbacks and would not benefit any society, with no party truly immune to the impacts, whether humanitarian, economic, or in terms of stability. “We have witnessed injured victims, fatalities, loss of livelihoods, and communities that are stranded and unable to travel. We want to see a clear direction towards a solution, so that mobility can return to normal and commodities and other needs can be redistributed to their destinations,” he said.
