A fire engulfed a tyre warehouse on Jalan Kecamatan, Pondok Jaya Village, Pondok Aren District, South Tangerang, on Wednesday (18 February) morning.

Head of the Fire Suppression and Rescue Division at the South Tangerang Fire Service, Omay Komarudin, said his office received a report of the fire at 09.40 Western Indonesian Time.

“Our crew and units arrived at the scene at approximately 09.50 and the suppression operation was completed at around 11.00,” Omay said when contacted for confirmation.

He said the fire was preliminarily suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit inside the warehouse.

During the suppression effort, the South Tangerang Fire Service deployed 16 fire engines with a total of 60 personnel. However, crews encountered difficulties en route to the scene.

“The challenge was that the alleyway leading to the location was too narrow, making it difficult for our personnel to reach the source of the fire,” he said.

Despite the difficulties, the blaze was successfully extinguished and no casualties were reported.

Losses from the fire are estimated at approximately Rp250 million. Authorities are continuing to compile data and conduct further investigations into the incident.
