Tyre Blowout Causes Ambulance Carrying Corpse to Crash into Resident's House in Jembrana, Bali

A funeral ambulance crashed into a resident’s house in Banjar Sumbersari, Melaya Village, Melaya Subdistrict, Jembrana Regency, Bali, on Thursday (28 May). The incident occurred around 10:00 AM WITA. ‘The traffic accident has been handled by the Jembrana Police’s Gakkum Unit (law enforcement task force) for further processing,’ said Melaya Police Chief Inspector I Putu Suarmadi. Suarmadi stated that the Suzuki APV ambulance with registration plate DK 1061 CX was travelling from Denpasar City to Gilimanuk. The vehicle was carrying a corpse and two passengers. The vehicle then suffered a rear left tyre blowout, causing the driver to lose control and swerve left, crashing into the resident’s fence. ‘The driver lost control of the vehicle and swerved left, hitting the resident’s fence,’ he added. The ambulance driver, identified as Umar Khatib (35), a resident of Sampang Regency, East Java, sustained a forehead laceration and received treatment at Melaya Primary Health Centre. The other two passengers, Ahmad Jaelani (19) from Probolinggo, East Java, and Anita Purwaningrum (41) from Lumajang, East Java, were unharmed. In addition to damaging the fence, the front of the ambulance was severely damaged in the impact. Suarmadi confirmed no fatalities in the incident. Police visited the scene and conducted a site investigation. ‘The ambulance sustained front-end damage. The driver was conscious and had a forehead laceration, receiving treatment at Melaya Primary Health Centre,’ he said.
