Two Young Men Injured as Thigh-Sized Firecrackers Explode in Pangandaran
Two people were injured while manufacturing jumbo firecrackers described as thigh-sized in Pangandaran. The explosion damaged part of the roof of a house near the site.
According to detikJabar, Anton (23) and Udan (20) were making firecrackers in Sindangjaya Village, Mangunjaya District, Pangandaran, on Friday (6 March). The firecrackers they were preparing suddenly exploded, producing three loud bangs.
Padaherang Police Sector Chief AKP Abdurahman said they had received the report and dispatched officers to the scene. The police also coordinated with the Pamapta unit of Pangandaran Police Resort to carry out a crime-scene examination (TKP).
“The incident occurred at 2:00 pm local time. The two youths were making firecrackers. Probably due to a lack of safety procedures, the explosion occurred, resulting in serious injuries,” he said via messaging app.
Abdurahman said both individuals sustained serious injuries. They were taken to a hospital in Ciamis for medical treatment.
“At present, both victims have been transported to a hospital in Ciamis for intensive medical treatment. Given their condition, their lives appear to be salvageable,” he added.
The police also urged the public not to manufacture or light firecrackers, especially ahead of Eid al-Fitr. Abdurahman warned of the dangers posed by firecrackers.
“Do not make, assemble, or light firecrackers, particularly ahead of Eid al-Fitr. This is very dangerous because it can threaten the safety of yourself and others,” he said.
