Two years sought for looters

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Prosecutors demanded yesterday a two-year sentence for two defendants involved in a riot which hit Banjarmasin in May.

The two 19-year-old defendants were accused of looting during the riot that broke out on May 23.

It has been the most severe penalty so far sought by prosecutors in connection with the incident.

Prosecutor J. Fudhoil Yamin was quoted by Antara as saying that the stiff penalty was sought because the accused was uncooperative during the trial and tried to give false testimony. (mds)
