Two-Year-Old Toddler in Bekasi Had Previously Been Abused by Uncle Before Murder
There are suspicions of mental health disorders regarding the perpetrator; however, for medical certainty, we must await the results of an in-depth psychological examination, which is expected to be released within 14 days, stated Bekasi Police Chief Kombes Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro on Wednesday (3/6/2026).
Under strict police escort, the suspect, SGK, is still undergoing intensive medical treatment in hospital due to wounds to his chest and mouth. Investigators have also taken statements from SGK and are awaiting a clearance letter from the medical team.
From investigations into the family background, it was revealed that the toddler had been entrusted to and cared for by his grandmother, as the victim’s biological mother works abroad and no longer lives in the same house. Tragically, the victim was left alone with his uncle because the grandmother had to leave the house to earn a living from the afternoon until the evening.
It has recently come to light that SGK, who is suspected of suffering from mental illness, had previously abused the victim. Family testimony revealed that the victim had previously experienced physical violence, where the unfortunate toddler was dragged by the perpetrator, SGK, the Chief added.
The victim was found lifeless by the grandmother, M (58), inside a rented house in the Jalan Cekrok, Gang Saijak area, Jatirangga, Jatisampurna, Bekasi, on Wednesday (27/5) at approximately 10:00 PM WIB. SGK is the sole suspected perpetrator.
Upon entering the rented house, the witness was shocked by the wide-open bedroom door. Inside the room, the witness found her grandchild, MAJ, deceased with fatal wounds to the head caused by a sharp weapon.
The suspect, SGK, was also found lying in a pool of blood next to the victim with lacerations to his mouth and chest. A kitchen knife was found at the crime scene.
The panicked witness immediately screamed for help from her son, who lives in an upstairs room, and he rushed downstairs with local residents to evacuate both the perpetrator and the victim. Based on initial investigations and interrogations, SGK is strongly suspected of carrying out this heinous act alone.
Police also found an initial confession that the perpetrator had struck the victim’s head with the knife first, causing the blade to bend due to the impact against the toddler’s skull.
Due to these heinous acts, SGK faces charges under Article 80, Paragraph 3 of Law No. 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection, subsidised by Article 456 of Law No. 1 of 2023 regarding the new Criminal Code (KUHP). The suspect faces a heavy criminal penalty with a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
