An explosion occurred while workers were conducting excavation work on Jalan Fatmawati Raya, Cilandak, South Jakarta. Two workers were thrown back by the force of the blast and sustained burn injuries as a result.

“They were certainly thrown back due to the shock, but not by several metres; they were just jolted by the impact,” stated Cilandak Police Chief, Commissioner Gusprihatin Zen, when contacted on Monday (8/6/2026). He noted that while the workers were startled by the explosion, the primary injury sustained by both victims was burns.

Regarding the cause of the explosion, police revealed that the incident happened while officers were inspecting a clean water pipe excavation. During the drilling process, a high-voltage PLN (State Electricity Company) cable was struck.

“It was a clean water pipe excavation. During the re-inspection before work proceeded, it turned out there was also a PLN cable there. It hit the breaker. It was a high-voltage cable, and it exploded at that spot,” he explained.

Following the explosion, the two injured workers were transported to the Emergency Department (IGD) of Fatmawati Hospital.
