Jakarta — The Directorate of Traffic at Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters has urged homecoming travellers using two-wheeled vehicles to refrain from carrying excessive personal baggage.

“We urge everyone to pay attention first to the cargo they are carrying and the family members they are transporting, not to overload, and to comply with regulatory provisions,” said Kombes Pol Komarudin, head of the Traffic Directorate at Jakarta Metro Police, when met in Jakarta on Monday.

Komarudin also noted that should overloaded two-wheeled travellers be discovered on the road, field personnel would take action against them.

“Our checkpoints will monitor all public activity, ranging from service posts, security posts, integrated posts, and observation posts,” he said.

He also encouraged the public using two-wheeled vehicles for homecoming travel to make use of the scattered security and service posts to take brief rest stops.

“Various parties have been conducting free homecoming programmes, which the public can utilise. This includes PT KAI, which is planning to transport two-wheeled vehicles by train. This would certainly be more comfortable and safer,” he said.

Komarudin suggested that rather than forcing the journey over considerable distances on two-wheeled vehicles, free travel programmes merit reconsideration. This is particularly relevant given current weather conditions which pose significant risks, he added.

The Traffic Directorate outlined several key security priorities for Operation Ketupat Jaya 2026, scheduled for 13 to 25 March 2026.

Kombes Pol Komarudin noted that the first phase predicts the peak of the homecoming exodus will occur around 16 to 18 March.
