Two domestic tourists met a tragic fate while celebrating Eid al-Adha 1447 H at Lakey Beach in Hu’u District, Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), on Wednesday afternoon (27 May 2026). They were swept away by waves, with one still missing.

“One victim was rescued by a surfer who was present, while the other remains missing,” said Wan Muhtajud, Head of Logistics and Emergency at BPBD Dompu, on Thursday morning (28 May 2026).

The two victims were identified as West Java residents who were in Dompu to work on the construction of a village cooperative shop for Koperasi Desa Merah Putih. After performing Eid al-Adha prayers, they decided to take a trip to Lakey Beach.

At Lakey Beach, they were swimming at the Rock Poll bathing spot in front of Ali’s Bar. While they were bathing, a large wave suddenly hit them, sweeping them far out to sea.

“The victims were bathing during low tide when a large wave suddenly came and carried the two people away from the shore,” Wan explained.

The missing victim has been identified as Rian, 23. Locals conducted a search immediately after the incident, but he has not yet been found.

“This morning, the Bima SAR team has arrived at the scene. They will conduct a search alongside other officers,” he said.
