Two Weeks After Crackdown, Illegal Parking Still Persists Behind Plaza Indonesia
JAKARTA - Illegal motorcycle parking spots were observed on Jalan Kebon Kacang 30, Tanah Abang Subdistrict, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (26/3/2026). Kompas.com’s monitoring at the location from 11:00 to 13:00 WIB revealed at least four illegal parking spots in the area. All the parking spots are located at the northern end of Jalan Kebon Kacang 30, precisely behind Plaza Indonesia on the Kebon Kacang Gate side. Each illegal parking spot has dozens of motorcycles parked. The parking locations are on the right and left edges of the road. On the left side of the road, the parking occupies the shoulder, while on the right side, it is on garden land. About two metres from the illegal parking location, a tent from the Transportation Department (Dishub) stands. There is a table and chairs under the tent, but no Dishub officers were seen on duty. For information, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government along with the Central Jakarta City Government recently carried out an enforcement of illegal buildings along Jalan Kebon Kacang 30 on 10 March 2026, or about two weeks ago. At that time, all illegal buildings, mostly food stalls along the road, were permanently demolished. In addition, illegal parking along Jalan Kebon Kacang 30 was also cleared. Only one rangi cake vendor was seen passing through the location. Meanwhile, food stalls on the right side of the road occupy permanent buildings. Those stalls were crowded with customers during lunch hours. One Satpol PP vehicle was seen stationed at the end of Jalan Kebon Kacang 30. Two Satpol PP officers were on standby in the vehicle. A Kebon Kacang resident met by Kompas.com at the location, Ari (42), said that food vendors still sneak opportunities to trade in the area. However, their operating hours are now from afternoon to evening. “Basically after 15:00 WIB. They bring carts. Now, buyers are not allowed to eat on site. That’s the agreement,” said Ari.
