Two US-Owned LNG Vessels Catch Fire in Egypt After Suspected Drone Attack

A fire broke out on two liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels at the Port of Damietta, Egypt, on Wednesday evening local time. The incident occurred after maritime security sources reported a suspected drone attack on a floating storage facility owned by the United States. The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum confirmed the fire and stated that it took place on board two storage and regasification vessels at the Mediterranean port. The ministry assured that there were no injuries or fatalities in the incident, adding that emergency response teams moved swiftly and managed to bring the situation under control. According to maritime security company Ambrey, as cited by Reuters and reported by the Palestine Chronicle, a drone struck the Energos Winter—a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) owned and operated by New Fortress Energy and flagged under the Marshall Islands. Trade sources familiar with the incident said the flames then spread to a second LNG vessel, the Gaslog Salem, which was moored alongside conducting cargo operations.
