Two lecturers from the Faculty of Law, Social Sciences, and Political Science (FHISIP) at the University of Mataram (Unram), identified by the initials L and M, have been tried. They were found to have committed verbal sexual harassment against several female students.

The trial of L and M was conducted by the university’s Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (Satgas PPKS). The hearing included witnesses from among students, lecturers, and university staff.

The head of Unram’s PPKS Task Force, Joko Jumadi, stated that based on the results of the plenary session, lecturer M has been recommended for a heavy sanction, which could lead to dismissal. The recommendation has been sent to the Rector of Unram, Sukardi.

"The plenary session yesterday involved all elements—lecturers, students, and the task force team. We conveyed the results to the rector verbally," Joko explained on Friday (12/6/2026).

In contrast to M, lecturer L has been recommended for a minor sanction. However, Joko did not detail the reasons for the lighter sanction, which is in the form of a reprimand.

"The official recommendation was submitted to the rector today," Joko stated.

According to Joko, from the examination of several female students prior to the trial, both lecturers were proven to have made sexually explicit jokes to a number of their students. Joko added that lecturer M has a track record of committing similar acts in the past.

"That is the aggravating factor, because there have been previous actions," Joko asserted.

Based on the team’s decision, the heavy sanction proposed for M could lead to dismissal from his position as a lecturer.

"We took statements from many witnesses, around a dozen female students. We also examined an entire class," Joko clarified.

Previously, the Rector of the University of Mataram, Sukardi, had firmly addressed the two lecturers suspected of verbal sexual harassment against their female students. Sukardi stated that the university does not tolerate any form of sexual misconduct by lecturers, whether physical or verbal, either on or off campus.

"We are currently processing this," Sukardi told detikBali on Monday (18/5/2026).
