Two TNI Members Involved in Misuse of Subsidised Fuel in West Java and Central Java

Two TNI members have been involved in a case of misuse of subsidised Fuel Oil (BBM) in the West Java (Jabar) and Central Java (Jateng) regions in 2025. Deputy Commander of TNI’s Puspom, First Marshal Bambang Suseno, stated that his side is still investigating the involvement of the two TNI personnel in the case. “In 2025, two personnel are suspected of being involved in the misuse of BBM. This is still under investigation at the Pomdam level,” he said during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4). Bambang emphasised that the TNI will not tolerate soldiers involved in the misuse of subsidised BBM or LPG. He assured that the legal process will proceed transparently according to the location of the incident (locus). “The TNI will not tolerate it and will take firm action if there are suspected perpetrators or backers from TNI members. This is already a commitment from the leadership that it will be dealt with firmly,” he said. He added that Puspom TNI is also opening doors for the public who have information regarding the involvement of other TNI members. “We are open to complaints from those who know; please report directly to Puspom TNI or to the regional Pomdam,” he stated. In the same opportunity, Director of Specific Crimes at Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Moh Irhamni, warned that no police members should engage or act as ‘backers’ in this illegal business. “Any form of involvement, whether as perpetrators or as backers, will be firmly addressed by the leadership. There is no tolerance,” he explained. 655 cases of subsidised BBM and gas misuse Throughout last year until April this year, Indonesian police have successfully dismantled a total of 655 cases of misuse of subsidised BBM and LPG cylinder gas. National Police Headquarters stated that the total state financial loss due to the misuse of BBM and LPG reached Rp1.2 trillion in 2025 and 2026. “The crime of misusing subsidised BBM and LPG has caused potential state financial leakage of Rp1,266,160,963,200,” said Deputy Head of Bareskrim Polri, Inspector General Nunung Syaifudin, during the press conference. Nunung said the loss value was known from the results of actions against BBM and LPG misuse carried out by Bareskrim Polri and regional Polda across Indonesia during 2025 and 2026. He detailed the state loss due to subsidised BBM misuse at Rp516,812,530,200 (Rp516.8 billion), while for subsidised LPG at Rp749,294,400,000 (Rp749.2 billion). Brigadier General Irhamni detailed that in 2025, there were 568 cases uncovered with a total of 583 suspects. Throughout 2025, he said, investigators successfully seized a total of 1.1 million litres of solar fuel and 127,000 litres of Pertalite. For 3 kg subsidised LPG, the seizure reached 17,500 cylinders. “Then 5.5 kg gas: 516 cylinders. 12 kg gas seizure: 4,945 cylinders. Then 50 kg gas: 422 cylinders,” he explained. Furthermore, throughout 2026, Irhamni stated that his side successfully uncovered a total of 97 cases with the number of arrested suspects reaching 89 perpetrators.
