TANGERANG SELATAN — Two thugs with initials AS (29) and MR (28) who attacked and stabbed a man identified as ES (27) in Serua Village, Ciputat, Tangerang Selatan city, have been arrested by residents and handed over to police.

The Head of Ciputat Timur Police Precinct, Senior Commissioner Bambang Askar Sodiq, stated that residents at the scene arrived after witnessing the two perpetrators attacking and stabbing ES.

“Residents immediately arrived and successfully apprehended both perpetrators before handing them over to police,” Bambang said when contacted on Thursday (12 March 2026).

The victim had observed the two perpetrators allegedly demanding money from traders in the area. Angered by the suspected extortion, the victim confronted the perpetrators and urged them to stop the illegal practice. However, the warning was rejected by the perpetrators, leading to a heated verbal argument with the victim.

Shortly afterwards, the victim left the scene. However, the two perpetrators pursued the victim to Jalan Maruga Raya, Kampung Maruga, Serua, Ciputat.

“After successfully intercepting the victim, the perpetrators then attacked him, with one perpetrator slashing the victim with a knife,” said Bambang.

The victim was subsequently taken to Permata Pamulang Hospital for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, both perpetrators were immediately brought to Ciputat Timur Police Precinct for further investigation.

Both perpetrators have been designated as suspects and charged under Article 262(2) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code relating to the crime of mob violence. Police are continuing to search for evidence in the form of the sharp weapon used in the incident.
