Two Thugs Assault Satay Vendor After Refusing to Pay for Meal
Two thugs in the Rawasari area of Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, caused a disturbance by assaulting a local vendor after refusing to pay for their meal. The incident was experienced by satay vendor Hikmatul Lisan (26). The two men attacked the victim while he was selling satay in Rawasari, Cempaka Putih, on Saturday, 6 June 2026 at 20:40 WIB. The incident went viral on social media. From circulating video footage, the two perpetrators can be seen approaching the cart where the victim was trading. The victim was then pulled until he fell to the ground. The two perpetrators were seen hitting and kicking the victim, who appeared to simply curl up during the assault. Several people were seen attempting to break up the attack. Police from the Cempaka Putih Sector Police and the Central Jakarta Metro Resort Police subsequently conducted an investigation and identified the perpetrators. The two suspects, identified as PP (45) and GBR (36), were arrested by police. “After receiving the report, officers immediately processed the crime scene and analysed CCTV recordings from around the location. From the investigation results, the identities of the alleged perpetrators were identified and both were secured without resistance,” said Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Reynold EP, in a statement on Wednesday (10/6). Reynold stressed that the police will not tolerate any form of violence. Police, he stated, will take action against all forms of thuggery. “We will take firm action against any criminal offenders who disturb the community. The speed of this disclosure is a form of the National Police’s commitment to providing protection and legal certainty for victims,” he said. Cempaka Putih Police Chief, Police Commissioner Pengky Sukmawan, added that both perpetrators were arrested at their respective homes. They admitted to assaulting the victim because they refused to pay after eating. “They did not want to pay for the food and drink,” said Cempaka Putih Police Chief Pengky Sukmawan when contacted on Wednesday (10/6). Pengky stated that the pair had often eaten at the victim’s stall without paying. Police are still examining the two suspects, including conducting urine tests. “They frequently asked for food and drink without paying,” he said.
