The Minister of Investment, or Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Rosan P. Roeslin, explained that Indonesia is now capable of producing battery cells for electric vehicles (EV).

Rosan stated that Indonesia already possesses two battery cell factories established in collaboration with Hyundai, as well as CATL and the Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC). “Currently, 1 in 6 new cars sold in Indonesia is a fully electric vehicle, and more than two-thirds of them are assembled in Indonesia,” Rosan explained during the Indonesia Sustainability Forum (ISF) in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Rosan elaborated that Indonesia is currently building an integrated ecosystem that connects mining, processing, manufacturing, clean energy, and technology. Through this approach, Rosan is confident that Indonesia can increase added value and create employment opportunities.

In 2025, Indonesia recorded realised investment reaching US$ 120 billion, with 30% of this coming from downstream industries.

“Capital continues to flow in, and currently, there are three most prominent sectors,” Rosan explained.

These three investment areas are: First, electrification ranging from mining and battery cells to electric vehicles. Second, cleaner downstreaming. “The main driver is the energy source behind the smelters: solar, hydro, geothermal, and energy storage,” Rosan clarified.
