Two Suspects Arrested for Stealing Railway Cables in Tanah Abang
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - KAI Commuter has apprehended two suspects allegedly involved in the theft of railway infrastructure cables along the Tanah Abang-Karet line in Central Jakarta, during two separate incidents.
VP of Corporate Communications at KAI Commuter, Karina Amanda, stated that the first arrest occurred on Friday (15 May 2026) at approximately 4:40 AM, when security personnel from Tanah Abang Station were conducting routine patrols.
“Officers immediately pursued and successfully apprehended one suspect at the scene,” Karina said in a statement on Saturday (16 May 2026).
Following observation, the suspect was found to have committed theft in the railway area.
Based on initial examination, the suspect admitted to having stolen cables several times in the Tanah Abang area and its surroundings.
At the location, officers found bonding cables that had been cut, along with a saw believed to have been used by the suspect.
KAI Commuter then coordinated with the police and handed over the suspect to the Metro Tanah Abang Police for further legal proceedings.
Officers subsequently apprehended another suspect who was already on the target list for cable theft cases in the same location.
The suspect was then taken to the Tanah Abang Station Security Post for data collection before being handed over to the police.
Karina affirmed that KAI Commuter will increase patrols and surveillance in operational areas to prevent theft and vandalism of railway infrastructure.
According to her, asset security is very important because it is directly related to the safety of Commuter Line journeys.
She also encouraged the public to report any suspicious activity around railway tracks or stations.
