Two suspects arrested during attempted motorcycle theft at Pasar Rebo petrol station
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Pasar Rebo Police Sector (Polsek Pasar Rebo) thwarted an attempted motor vehicle theft (curanmor) carried out by two suspects at the Gandaria petrol station, Jalan Raya Bogor, Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta.
The disclosure was based on police report LP/B/64/IV/2026/SPKT/Polsek Pasar Rebo relating to the offence of attempted theft with aggravation under Article 477 juncto 17 of Law Number 1 Year 2023 on the Criminal Code, according to Kapolsek Pasar Rebo AKP I Wayan Wijaya.
The incident occurred on Thursday (9 April) at around 07.30 WIB at Gandaria SPBU, Jalan Raya Bogor, East Jakarta. The victim is identified by initials AF (33), a man resident of Pondok Ranggon, Cipayung District, East Jakarta.
According to Wayan, the two suspects attempted to steal a black Honda Vario motorcycle belonging to the victim by damaging the key cylinder with a T-shaped key. However the act was spotted by a petrol station employee on site.
“The modus operandi was to take a black Vario motorcycle by damaging the lock with a T-shaped key,” he said.
When the theft was discovered, the witness, a petrol station employee, yelled for help. The commotion panicked the suspects, who attempted to flee the scene.
“The witness’s shout prompted the suspects to flee, but at that moment a Criminal Investigation Unit patrol was nearby; they heard the shout and detained the two suspects,” he explained.
The two suspects in custody are identified as S (42), a resident of Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, and R alias M (43), a resident of Bulakan village, Cinangka District, Serang Regency, Banten.
From the suspects’ possession, police recovered several pieces of evidence including one black Honda Vario motorcycle bearing police number A 6935 SJ used by the suspects, another black Honda Vario motorcycle bearing police number B 4570 FDJ belonging to the victim, and a T-shaped key used to damage the motor lock.
Meanwhile, when asked about the suspects’ confession regarding the frequency of similar thefts, police said both suspects claimed it was their first time.
“We are told that it was a single act. We have interrogated them, but they have maintained it was only one incident,” Wayan said.
For this offence, the two suspects are charged under Article 477 juncto 17 of Law Number 1 Year 2023 on the Indonesian Penal Code for attempted theft with aggravation.
“The penalty could be seven years’ imprisonment or two-thirds of that amount because the act was still an attempt,” he added.
