Two Suspects Arrested After Attempted Kidnapping of 70-Year-Old Man in PIK

Police have launched an investigation into the attempted kidnapping of an elderly man, identified by the initials GH (70), in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area of North Jakarta. Two suspects have now been arrested. “It is confirmed that two perpetrators have been detained,” said Penjaringan Police Chief AKBP Agta Bhuwana Putra when contacted on Monday (15/6/2026). Agta has not yet detailed the chronology of the arrests. The police are currently conducting further examinations. “They were arrested on Friday last week,” he stated. The incident took place in May 2026, at around 6.55 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. Based on initial investigations and CCTV footage obtained by investigators, a car was seen following the victim, who was out walking for exercise near his residence. Shortly afterwards, a man got out of the vehicle and approached the victim directly. The perpetrator attempted to force the victim into the car. The victim resisted, thereby escaping the kidnapping attempt. “The perpetrator tried to pull the victim to force him into the car. The victim fought back, so the perpetrator did not succeed in the kidnapping,” explained Penjaringan Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Sampson Sosa Hutapea. The CCTV footage showed the victim and the perpetrator engaged in a struggle. Both were even seen falling onto the road during the tussle. Despite his advanced age, the victim continued to resist and shouted for help. The victim’s shouts are believed to have panicked the perpetrator. The perpetrator eventually ceased his actions and chose to flee the scene before managing to abduct the victim. “The victim and the perpetrator struggled until they fell. Because the victim fought back and shouted, the perpetrator appeared frightened and then left the location,” said Sampson.
