Two Suspected Motorcycle Thieves Attacked by Mob in Karawang, One Dies
Two suspected motorcycle theft perpetrators became targets of mob violence after their alleged crimes were discovered in Pedes District, Karawang Regency, West Java. One of the suspected perpetrators was reported dead during the incident.
The Head of Public Relations of Karawang Police Precinct, Ipda Cep Wildan, stated that the incident occurred at Sukarela Hamlet, Kertamulya Village, Pedes District, on Monday at approximately 09:00 WIB. The incident was captured in a video that subsequently circulated widely on social media.
Cep Wildan confirmed that the video recording related to residents apprehending the suspected motorcycle theft perpetrators in the area. After receiving reports from the community, officers from the Criminal Investigation Unit and Crime Prevention Unit of Pedes Police Precinct immediately went to the location to secure the situation and evacuate two individuals suspected of motorcycle theft who had previously been detained and assaulted by residents.
Both suspected perpetrators were taken to Karawang District Hospital for medical treatment. However, based on medical examination results, one suspect identified as A was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, the other suspect identified as K alias E remained under medical care.
From the crime scene, police secured several pieces of evidence, including one black Honda Beat motorcycle allegedly used by the perpetrators, one motorcycle belonging to the victim, a T-shaped wrench handle, and a mobile telephone.
Additionally, officers conducted crime scene investigation, gathered witness statements, and coordinated with the Forensic Team of Karawang Police Precinct for further investigation.
The police urged the public not to take the law into their own hands. Should anyone become aware of or discover criminal activity, they are asked to immediately report it to police authorities so that it can be handled in accordance with applicable legal procedures.
