Two Surgeries at RSCM, Andrie Yunus Now Undergoing Observation After Being Doused with Caustic Liquid

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - KontraS activist Andrie Yunus is still being treated in the high care unit (HCU) at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) in Central Jakarta after being doused with caustic liquid on Thursday (12/3/2026).

Head of KontraS’s Impunity Monitoring Division, Jane Rosalina, stated that Andrie Yunus underwent two surgical procedures last week.

“And this week, he is undergoing observation and other treatments,” Jane said at the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) office in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

Intensive care is also being provided for Andrie Yunus’s right eye, which was also affected by the caustic liquid.

“This intensive care is not just at one time but will be periodic. So we ask for your prayers,” Jane said.

For information, Andrie Yunus is currently undergoing intensive treatment after suffering burns covering about 20 percent of his body due to the caustic liquid dousing.

The human rights activist began treatment at RSCM on 13 March 2026, or a few hours after being attacked in the Senen area, Central Jakarta.

Previously, Komnas HAM Commissioner Saurlin Siagian stated that the recovery process for Andrie Yunus’s burns from the caustic liquid attack could take up to two years.

He revealed this based on information from the doctor after visiting Andrie at RSCM on Thursday (19/3/2026).

“It will take six months to two years ahead for 100 percent recovery of his burns,” said Saurlin Siagian to reporters.

In that process, Andrie is scheduled to undergo several surgical procedures.

“Then, we received confirmation that the financing, alhamdulillah, is covered by BPJS,” Saurlin added.

The caustic liquid attack case against Andrie Yunus has now entered a new phase after four personnel from the TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) were secured in connection with alleged involvement in the incident.
