Two Sumatran Tiger Cubs Spotted in 2025 Found in Good Condition

The Ministry of Forestry has reported that two Sumatran tiger cubs (Panthera tigris sumatrae) first sighted in September 2025 are in good condition, based on the latest monitoring in the Kerinci Seblat landscape, West Sumatra.

Director General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation at the Ministry of Forestry, Satyawan Pudyatmoko, stated that the monitoring results demonstrate the importance of sustainable management of conservation areas and buffer forests through synergy between the government, communities, conservation partners, and other stakeholders.

“Every tiger cub that successfully grows and survives in the wild is a hope for the future of Indonesian conservation,” he said in a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He explained that the camera trap footage of the two Sumatran tiger cubs serves as a positive indicator that the natural reproduction process of this endangered species is still ongoing. It also shows that the habitat is still capable of supporting the survival of this key species.

The successful survival of the two cubs into adolescence is also an important indicator of the success of habitat protection and area security efforts.
