Two students die in road accident

JAKARTA: Two students died and another was seriously injured early on Sunday after a van they were riding in spun out on the Tangerang toll road, hitting the traffic barrier and rolling.

Police have not yet revealed the three young men's names. A 17-year-old resident of Karawaci and a 16-year-old from the Perum housing complex in Tangerang died on the spot, while the driver a 17-year-old, address unknown, was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

City police spokesman Sr. Comr. I Ketut Untung Yoga Ana said on Monday that police were still questioning witnesses to find out the cause of the accident.

He said that the van, which was traveling at high speed from Jakarta to Tangerang, went out of control when it exited through the Lippo Karawaci gate.

"We are still investigating the case. The driver might have been sleepy or under the influence of drugs. We will check if (he) was under the influence," Ketut said. --JP
