Tangerang Selatan (ANTARA) – Two vocational school students, identified by the initials A (14) and W (15), died after the motorcycle they were riding hit a pavement in the Alam Sutera area of North Serpong, South Tangerang, Banten, on Friday (9 October).

Serpong Police chief Commissioner Suhardono said in Tangerang on Saturday that the accident occurred at about 3pm local time, when the two victims were believed to have been trying to avoid a group of other students carrying sharp weapons.

“This was purely a traffic accident. Based on the initial medical examination, no slash or stab wounds were found on either victim,” Suhardono said.

He explained that the victims and several fellow students from Pinang, Tangerang city, were heading to Alam Sutera to play futsal.

The rider, however, lost control and the motorcycle struck the pavement. The impact killed both students at the scene.

“An examination at Tangerang Regional Hospital found bruising to the face, particularly the forehead, as well as severe head injuries caused by the force of the impact when they fell. There were no injuries from sharp weapons,” Suhardono said.

Police are still investigating the case to identify and locate the group of students carrying sharp weapons, which is suspected of having triggered the victims’ panic.

Suhardono also urged parents and schools to strengthen supervision and guidance of students’ activities outside school hours to help prevent similar incidents.
