Two Student Demonstrations in Jakarta Today, Avoid Potential Traffic Hotspots

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Two student demonstrations will be held in Central Jakarta on Friday (8/5/2026) today.

The Head of Public Relations at Metro Jakarta Central Police Resort, Iptu Erlyn Sumantri, stated that the first demonstration will take place at 11:00 WIB on Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Gambir.

“At 11:00 WIB, there will be a demonstration by the Koalisi Aktivis Mahasiswa Indonesia Sultra Jakarta,” said Erlyn in a written statement on Friday.

A total of 585 combined police officers have been mobilised to secure the demonstration on Friday.

According to Erlyn, traffic arrangements at the demonstration site will be implemented situationally, taking into account the number of participants on the ground.

“Residents can seek alternative routes during the protest,” Erlyn added.
