Two suspects who were previously secured by the police have officially been given suspect status and immediately placed in detention.

The two are Hendrikus Rahayaan (28) and Finansius Ulukyanan (36). The determination of suspects was made after investigators from the Maluku Regional Police conducted the case based on the results of intensive examinations. The police have confirmed that the legal process against the two is now underway.

“They have been designated as suspects and detained at the Maluku Regional Police Detention Centre last night,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Maluku Regional Police, Commissioner Rositah Umasugi, quoted on Tuesday, 21 April 2026.

The two stabbing suspects have now been transferred to Ambon under super strict escort by armed officers. The two suspects, HR (28) and FU (39), were brought from Southeast Maluku to the Maluku Regional Police headquarters to undergo further examinations.

The transfer process was carried out amid maximum security. The Head of Public Relations of the Maluku Regional Police, Commissioner Rositah Umasugi, confirmed the transfer.

The incident occurred around 11:25 WIT, shortly after the victim arrived from Jakarta. The situation at the airport area, which was initially normal, suddenly became tense when the stabbing attack occurred abruptly.

The Head of Public Relations of the Maluku Regional Police, Commissioner Rositah Umasugi, revealed that the victim was attacked using a sharp weapon.

“Suddenly the victim was stabbed by an unknown person using a knife. The suspected perpetrator immediately fled after the incident,” said Rositah in her written statement.
