Semarang (ANTARA) - Iwan Setiawan Lukminto, the Chairman of PT Sritex, and Iwan Kurniawan Lukminto, the President Director of PT Sritex, defendants in the alleged corruption case involving the provision of credit facilities to the bankrupt textile company, have each been demanded a prison sentence of 16 years by prosecutors.

Public Prosecutor Fajar Santoso, at the hearing in the Semarang Corruption Court on Monday, also demanded that both defendants be fined Rp1 billion, which if not paid would be replaced with imprisonment for 190 days.

In the case, the prosecutor stated that both defendants were proven guilty of committing the criminal act of corruption and the criminal act of money laundering.

“The defendants are proven guilty of violating Article 603 of Law No. 1 of 2023 and Article 3 of Law No. 8 of 2010 on the Prevention and Eradication of Money Laundering Crimes,” he said.

In his considerations, the public prosecutor stated that both defendants applied for loans from three regional government-owned banks using financial reports that differed from those submitted in the Financial Information Service System (SLIK) of the Financial Services Authority (OJK).

In his demand, the prosecutor stated that defendant Iwan Setiawan Lukminto was the main perpetrator in the corruption crime that totalled state losses of around Rp1.3 trillion.

“The state losses are real and cannot be recovered because PT Sritex has been declared bankrupt and does not have sufficient assets,” he said at the hearing presided over by Chief Judge Rommel Franciskus Tampubolon.

In the money laundering charges, the defendants were proven to have disguised money obtained from the proceeds of the crime, among others, by placing it in PT Sritex’s operational accounts so that it was masked as legitimate company income.

In addition, the defendants also disguised money obtained from the proceeds of the crime to purchase land, houses, apartments, and cars.

“The defendants do not feel guilty and do not regret their actions,” he said.

In his demand, the prosecutor also requested that the panel of judges impose additional punishment on both defendants in the form of payment of replacement money for state losses of Rp677 billion each, which if not paid would be replaced with imprisonment for 8 years.

In response to the demand, Chief Judge Rommel Franciskus Tampubolon gave both defendants the opportunity to present their defences at the next hearing.
