Two SPPI Participants Die During Military Training, Defence Ministry Offers Condolences

The Indonesian Ministry of Defence has expressed its deepest condolences over the deaths of two participants of the Sarjana Penggerak Pembangunan Indonesia (SPPI) programme for the 2026 Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih (KDKMP) and Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih (KNMP) initiatives. Both were undergoing Basic Military Training (Latsarmil) at TNI educational units.

Participant Anisa Muyassaroh, who was training at the Dodikjur Rindam VI/Mulawarman Balikpapan educational unit, experienced health problems on 18 June 2026. She received medical treatment at the unit’s health facility before being referred to hospital. According to medical reports, she died from heat stroke.

Meanwhile, participant Yonanda Muhammad Taufiq, who was training at the Puslatpur Kodiklatad Baturaja educational unit, suffered a decline in his health condition on 17 June 2026. He also received treatment from the unit’s medical personnel before being referred to hospital. “Based on medical reports, the individual was pronounced dead due to cardiac arrest,” said Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of the Information Bureau of the Ministry of Defence’s Secretariat General, in a press release in Jakarta on Tuesday (23/6/2026).

Rico noted that prior to joining the programme, both participants had undergone selection stages in accordance with applicable regulations, including health examinations, and were declared fit to participate in the training series. “The Ministry of Defence, together with the TNI, has provided assistance to the families of both participants and ensured that all handling processes were carried out according to applicable procedures,” Rico stated.
