Two SPPI Kopdes Merah Putih Members Die During Military Training, Palace Responds

Two prospective managers of the Koperasi Desa (Kopdes Merah Putih) and Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih (KNMP) programme have died while undergoing Basic Military Training as part of the Sarjana Penggerak Pembangunan Indonesia (SPPI) scheme. Responding to the incident, Deputy Minister of State Secretary Juri Ardiantoro stated that the Ministry of Defence has already provided an explanation regarding the deaths of the two SPPI participants. “It has been explained by the Ministry of Defence,” Juri told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, 24 June 2026. Juri explained that the handling of the incident would be carried out as effectively as possible without disrupting the continuity of the Kopdes Merah Putih or Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih programmes. “Matters related to such events will be handled properly and, of course, separated from the activities or continuation of this programme,” he clarified. He further emphasised that the Kopdes Merah Putih and Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih programmes will continue. “So the Koperasi Merah Putih programme will certainly go on,” Juri concluded.
