Two soldiers killed in Aceh

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Two soldiers and two civilians were killed in a clash with rebel separatists in Aceh just days after peace talks between the two camps ended.

Troops were ambushed by guerrillas of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) in East Aceh on Saturday, leaving two soldiers dead and three others wounded, Lt. Col. Tito Otman was quoted by AFP.

Two civilians who were working in a plantation near the site of the clash were killed by stray bullets, he said.

The rebels also set fire to a car nearby to divert attention so they could flee, Otman said. -- AFP
