Two siblings reunited

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Two half-siblings who have been separated for 60 years and have different nationalities were reunited here on Sunday, Antara reported yesterday.

Djawiyah Imran, 73, of Selangor, Malaysia, finally met her half-brother Sulaiman Kurdi, a resident of Sesa Kambat village, Hulusungai Tengah regency, in a heart-rending reunion witnessed by relatives.

Dato Hj. Yacob A. Hamid, Djawiyah's son, said his side of the family has spent dozens of years trying to track Sulaiman down.

Sulaiman said he was told when he was small that he had a half-sister from his father's previous marriage to a Malaysian woman, but had never succeeded in locating her. They first made contact through a letter in 1958, but stopped communicating after Indonesia initiated the confrontation with Malaysia in 1960. (swe)
