Two Siblings in Sumedang Suffer Permanent Eye Injury After Second Acid Attack

Two children, aged nine and five, have become victims of an acid attack in Cibunar Village, Sumedang Regency. The siblings sustained serious injuries as a result of the assault.

“It is true, on 15 June the PPA unit received a report alleging that two children were victims of a suspected acid attack. We have conducted an investigation and tonight the children have also been secured at the P3A Office, the Office of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection,” said Sumedang Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Tanwin Nopiansyah, as quoted by detikJabar on Friday (19/6/2026).

Tanwin stated that the two siblings had been victims of acid attacks twice. The victim with the initials RPF (9) suffered permanent injury to his left eye, while his younger sibling, with the initials KSHZ (5), sustained injuries to the back of the head.

“This case has occurred twice, the first on 12 May and the second on 15 June. The older sibling has permanent injury to the left eye and the younger sibling has injuries to the back of the head,” he revealed.

The case remains under police investigation. Officers have taken statements from several witnesses within the victims’ family.

Meanwhile, both victims are now in a safe house provided by the Sumedang Office of Population Control and Family Planning, Women’s Empowerment, and Child Protection.
