Two Schools Implement Distance Learning After Matraman Clash
Two schools located on the second floor of the Jami Matraman Mosque in Jakarta have implemented distance learning (PJJ) following a clash between community groups in the area on Sunday (26/7).
Menteng District Head Nurhelmi Savitri said the policy was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the teaching and learning process continues without undermining the sense of security of students and parents.
“Yes, PJJ,” said Nurhelmi on Monday (27/7).
According to her, PJJ will remain in force until the security situation around the Jami Matraman Mosque is truly conducive after the clash. However, the government has not yet set a time limit for its implementation.
“It is simply a precaution so that parents and children feel more comfortable. The important thing is that the teaching and learning process continues,” she said.
The clash occurred on Jalan Matraman Dalam, Pegangsaan subdistrict, Menteng district, at around 10.00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
Earlier, Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Commissioner Reynold E.P. Hutagalung said the incident began with a dispute triggered by two motorcyclists making noise near street vendors’ stalls.
As a result of the clash, a 23-year-old man with the initials K died, while another victim is still undergoing intensive treatment at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (RSCM).
Joint forces from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) remain on standby around the Jami Matraman Mosque to maintain security and anticipate further clashes.
The Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police have named seven suspects in the clash on Jalan Tambak, Menteng. Four are linked to the destruction of vendor carts and three to the fatal beating.

A clash between residents broke out in East Adonara, East Flores (6/3/2026). Three residents were shot with homemade firearms and a number of houses were burned due to a land dispute.
