Two Schools Implement Distance Learning After Matraman Clash

Two schools located on the second floor of the Jami Matraman Mosque in Jakarta have implemented distance learning (PJJ) following a clash between community groups in the area on Sunday (26/7). Menteng Sub-district Head Nurhelmi Savitri stated the policy was adopted as a precautionary measure to ensure the teaching and learning process continues without compromising the sense of security for students and parents. “Yes, PJJ,” Nurhelmi said on Monday (27/7). According to her, PJJ will be enforced until the security situation around the Jami Matraman Mosque is fully conducive after the clash. However, the authorities have not yet set a time limit for its implementation. “It is just a precaution so that parents and children feel more comfortable. The important thing is that the teaching and learning process continues,” she said. The clash occurred on Jalan Matraman Dalam, Pegangsaan Village, Menteng District, around 10.00 WIB. Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Senior Commissioner Reynold E.P. Hutagalung previously stated the incident stemmed from a dispute triggered by two motorcyclists making noise near a vendor’s stall. As a result of the clash, a 23-year-old man identified as K died, while another victim is still receiving intensive care at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM). Joint personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob), and the National Police remain deployed around the Jami Matraman Mosque to maintain security and anticipate further clashes. Polda Metro Jaya has named seven suspects in the Menteng clash, with four linked to the destruction of a cart and three linked to the fatal assault.
