Two robbers shot dead
JAKARTA (JP): Police officers have shot dead two suspected robbers who were resisting arrest on Jl. Pluit Raya Selatan in North Jakarta.
City Police spokesman Lt. Col. Iman Haryatna confirmed the shooting of Suheri Sitanggang, 20, a resident of Kapuk Kebon Jahe, West Jakarta, and Sunjaya, 21, on Tuesday.
Iman said the men, known to be notorious street hoodlums in the area, robbed Ervina Oktaviani, 18, a resident of Jl. Tangkiwood, West Jakarta, and Suryanto, 22, a resident of Jl. Sunter Podomoro, North Jakarta.
"The Penjaringan police subprecinct officers swiftly chased the hoodlums after receiving a report from the couple," he said.
Iman said Suheri was shot in the hip and Sunjaya was shot in the hip and back. They died on the way to the Kramatdjati police hospital.
He said the hoodlums threatened the couple with machetes before snatching Ervina's 10-gram gold necklace.
Iman said the two men were repeat offenders having been involved in several previous robberies. Sunjaya had just been released from the Cipinang Correctional Institution on March 11. (04)
