Two robberies in Tangerang

TANGERANG (JP): Two groups of robbers broke into two houses Tuesday morning, making away with cash, jewelry and electronic goods worth millions of rupiah.

Tangerang Police chief Lt. Col. Aryanto Boediharjo said the first robbery took place in a house on Jl. Pidana, in Tangerang.

Aryanto said the robbers drove to the house and gained access by smashing a window.

The owner of the house, Gozim, could do nothing to stop the robbers as the group threatened to kill him and members of his family, he said.

About the same time, the other group of robbers broke into a house belonging to Mrs. Saleh on Jl. Empu Sendok in Jatiuwung, he said.

Mrs. Saleh woke up when she heard noises in the living room but she was threatened with a sword when she went to investigate the sound, he said.

The robbers managed to steal gold jewelry and cash before leaving the house in a Kijang van, he said. (41/jun)
