Two residents of Lingkungan II, Kelurahan Wek I, South Tapanuli Regency (Tapsel), North Sumatra were reported missing after being buried by a landslide caused by heavy rain on Monday (18 May). The incident occurred as heavy rain pounded the area from Monday afternoon into the evening. According to the family, the victims had gone to the back of their house to repair a blocked drainage channel before being buried by the landslide. A joint team from BPBD Tapsel, the TNI, Polri, and local residents are conducting searches. Evacuation efforts are hampered by the rain and slippery roads. Officials have deployed heavy machinery and night lighting to aid in the search for the victims.
