Two Regional Police Chiefs Now Hold Three-Star General Rank: West Java and Metro Jaya

West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan has officially been promoted to the rank of Commissioner General (Komjen), or three-star general. The promotion of Rudi Setiawan means two regional police forces are now led by three-star generals, namely the Metro Jaya Police and the West Java Police. The West Java Police are led by Komjen Rudi Setiawan, and the Metro Jaya Police are led by Komjen Asep Edi Suheri. Asep has held the three-star general rank since May 2026. Asep’s promotion at that time was based on Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia number 38/Polri/year 2026 dated 13 May 2026. Meanwhile, West Java Police Chief Rudi Setiawan received his promotion to three-star general on Tuesday (30/6). The promotion ceremony was led directly by National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo at the National Police Headquarters. During the ceremony, Rudi was one of four high-ranking officers promoted to Komjen. The other three were Komjen Mulia Hasudungan Ritonga, Komjen Gatot Tri Suryanta, and Komjen Helmy Santika. Head of the National Police Public Relations Division, Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, stated that the promotion is a form of trust and a mandate from the institution that must be realised through improved quality of service to the public. ‘A promotion is not merely a reward for a career journey, but also a mandate that carries greater responsibility,’ Isir said. During the ceremony, promotions to Inspector General, or two-star rank, were awarded to 29 high-ranking officers, including Inspector General Agus Wijayanto and Inspector General Himawan Bayu Aji. Meanwhile, 54 middle-ranking officers also officially attained the rank of Brigadier General, or one-star rank. In addition to the 87 high-ranking officers, promotions were also granted to 878 middle-ranking officers, 1,289 first officers, 37,930 non-commissioned officers, and 1,394 enlisted personnel. In total, 41,578 National Police personnel received promotions as part of career development and recognition for their dedication and performance in carrying out police duties. Isir stated that these promotions also serve as a symbol of the institution’s appreciation for the dedication and achievements of its personnel, as well as a momentum to strengthen the spirit of service in providing the best service to the public.
