Two Regional Heads in West Kalimantan Limit Fuel Filling, Triggering Panic Buying
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian has stated that the policy of limiting fuel filling in Singkawang and Bengkayang, West Kalimantan, has triggered panic buying among the public.
“Well, based on that, panic buying has occurred. Panic buying because of the circular letter that restricts it. Whereas the original intention was to reduce queues, you know, so that the queues are short, right. So that people can quickly get, I think 30 litres if I’m not mistaken,” said Tito when met at the Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
In addition, Tito asked the local government to immediately provide explanations to the public.
“And give explanations to the public, that the fuel stocks, gas, everything is safe, sufficient. No need to worry. That’s what is conveyed to the public,” Tito explained.
Tito assured that fuel stocks are in a normal condition, so the public will remain safe.
