Two Protests Scheduled Simultaneously in Jakarta Today, Several Road Sections at Risk of Congestion

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Two demonstrations are scheduled to occur in the Central Jakarta area on Monday (20/4/2026). The police have mobilised hundreds of combined personnel to secure the protests and anticipate potential traffic disruptions. “The two demonstrations today both start at 10:00 WIB,” said the Head of Public Relations for the Central Jakarta Metro Police Resort, First Inspector Erlyn Sumantri, in a written statement on Monday (20/4/2026). Erlyn stated that the first protest is being held by participants from the Gerakan Pemuda Mahasiswa Hukum dan Rakyat Bekasi in the southern area of Monas and Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Gambir. A total of 584 combined police personnel have been deployed to secure the demonstration in Central Jakarta on Monday. Officers will also apply situational traffic engineering, taking into account the number of participants on the ground. Erlyn advised the public to avoid the areas around the protest locations to anticipate traffic density. “Residents can seek other alternative routes during the protest,” said Erlyn.
