Two Project Workers Survive After Being Crushed by Concrete Drainage in Jatinegara

Two project workers survived after being crushed by a collapsed concrete drainage structure on Jalan DI Panjaitan, in front of Best Western Premier The Hive, Cipinang Cempedak, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, on Sunday (9/8). The incident began when the two victims, identified as Udin (25) and Syarifin (40), were carrying out drainage work at the location around 2 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. “However, the concrete drainage structure collapsed, and their colleague reported it to the emergency ambulance (AGD),” said Head of Operations for the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat), Abdul Wahid, in a statement on Monday (10/8). As the AGD officers had difficulty evacuating the victims, the incident was eventually reported to the fire department. Abdul stated that both victims were successfully evacuated alive. He said the evacuation process began at 2:47 p.m. and was declared complete at 5:39 p.m. “The victims survived and were taken to the nearest hospital,” Abdul said. Information regarding the evacuation of the two project workers was also uploaded to the East Jakarta Fire Department’s Instagram account. In the uploaded video, firefighting personnel can be seen attempting to evacuate the victims, with various pieces of equipment used to assist the process.
