Two Prambanan Regional Hospital Doctors Questioned Over Child's Death After CT Scan

Investigators from the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Yogyakarta Regional Police are continuing their inquiry into an alleged malpractice case involving Prambanan Regional Hospital. To date, police have questioned eight witnesses, including doctors from the hospital. “As of now, eight people have been asked for clarification,” said Yogyakarta Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Ihsan, in a statement on Friday (12/6/2026). Ihsan explained that the first round of clarifications was conducted last week with five individuals. This week, three more people were examined, specifically a doctor from the referring clinic and two doctors from Prambanan Regional Hospital. “Last week, the Yogyakarta Police sought clarification from five people, and this week three more have been asked for clarification. Namely, one doctor from the referring clinic and two doctors from Prambanan Regional Hospital,” he clarified. He added that the case is still in the investigation phase. “The alleged malpractice case at Prambanan Regional Hospital is currently still under investigation,” he concluded. It was previously reported that a mother, Anastacia Niken Purwandari (36), a resident of Bantul, reported the person in charge of Prambanan Regional Hospital and a doctor to the Yogyakarta Police for alleged malpractice. In this case, Anastacia’s biological child, Naura Dwi Medita Putri (3), died after undergoing a CT scan. The report was filed on 17 May 2026 with report number LP/B/319/V/2026/SPKT/Polda DIY. Niken, accompanied by her legal team, later visited the Yogyakarta Police for further examination. “This is a follow-up to the initial examination related to the police report concerning alleged medical negligence as stipulated in the Health Law and the Consumer Protection Law,” said one of the victim’s legal counsel, Purnomo Susanto, when met by reporters at the Yogyakarta Police headquarters on Tuesday (2/6). He explained that the case began when his client’s child, Naura Dwi Medita Putri (3), underwent a follow-up examination at Prambanan Regional Hospital on the morning of 27 April 2026. The examination was a follow-up to one conducted in March 2026 after Naura received a tiered referral, starting from the Posyandu community health post, to a clinic, and finally to Prambanan Regional Hospital. During the check-up on 27 March, the victim’s head circumference remained at 46 centimetres and was still considered below average for a child her age. The doctor diagnosed the victim with microcephaly and subsequently recommended a CT scan. Prior to the CT scan procedure, the hospital administered sedation to calm the victim. According to information received, the victim was given three sedative injections before the CT scan proceeded. After the CT scan, the victim experienced seizures and vomited blood. Medical staff immediately moved the victim to the ICU, but her life could not be saved.
